Tooth Grinding

Tooth grinding or bruxism is is one of the most common problems of our modern society and a frequent reason for premature wear of teeth and restorations. Reasons for grinding range from stress, irregular sleep cycles, and ingrained neurological loops. Clenching and grinding may occur during the day but it is nighttime grinding cycles that yield most of the stress and wear. Tooth wear is one of the most common reasons for failure of adult dentistry and need for much of adult dentistry.  Nightguards or splints are the appliances commonly made for minimizing the wear and also relaxing the jaw muscles.
